i was seriously offered $1 for what was a $100 book I paused waiting for a smile or any sympathy at all and got nothing I walked off in a huff.

I’ve been tempted to do that with the massive pile of outdated and useless 3 ring binders we have at work.
But then I’d have to clean it all up.

That is impressive. The bookstore would still likely give you 5 dollars for the remainder.
I started buying/selling my books online. I got more for them and bought them for cheaper. Or online books later came along.

Yeah, bookstores used to piss me off when I was in college. The worst for me was when my Statistics class changed text books. As a result, there were no used to buy, so I had to pony up the $220 for the new book. At the end of the semester it was decided that they would go back to the old book so I couldn’t sell the book back. And since this was in the early infancy of the internet, there really was no online option.
